  • Uses

Generic Maxalt is used to treat migraine attacks accompanied or not accompanied by visual disturbances. The medication reduces the length of a migraine attack that has already started, yet it cannot prevent future seizures.

Generic Maxalt is only intended for treatment of typical migraine attacks. Do not use it for regular headaches or atypical migraines such as hemiplegic or basilar migraine.

  • How to take

The medication is administered orally. The dosage is defined according to your health condition and response to treatment. Consult your doctor if the first dose of the medication didn't cause relief. There should be at least 2 hours between the doses.

  • Side effects

DO NOT use the medication if you are allergic to it. If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.

Contact a medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: pain or tightness in the throat, neck or jaw area; chest pain spreading to the arm and shoulder; perspiration and feeling sick; body weakness or numbness, especially one-sided; strong headache, sight problems, difficulty speaking or maintaining balance; stomach pain and bloody diarrhea; numb or tingling fingers or toes, change of their color to blue; agitation, hallucinations, high body temperature, increased heart rate, accentuated reflexes, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness (especially if you are taking antidepressants).

  • Precautions

Notify your doctor of the allergies you might have, especially to "triptan" migraine drugs, as well as high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, family history of heart attacks or disorders; diabetes; obesity; blood circulation disorders (Raynaud's syndrome); kidney or liver disease; intestinal disorder; blood vessel disease or a history of smoking.

Women after menopause and ovaries removal, as well as men over 40 should use caution when taking Generic Maxalt as it may increase the probability of an undiagnosed heart disease.

Limit the consumption of alcohol as it may lead to more serious side effects.

Generic Maxalt may have a sleepy effect. Avoid driving and other activities that require mental alertness.

Pregnant women should take the medication only if strongly required and after a consult with their medical specialists. It is yet unidentified whether the medication can pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding women should consult their doctors before taking the medication.
