- Uses
Generic Lamisil (terbinafine) is an antibiotic prescribed to treat fungi-induced infections that attack finger or toenails. Oral granules of the medication can effectively fight fungal infections in hair follicles in children who are older than 4 years old.
- How to take
Generic Lamisil is administered orally during meals or otherwise. Do not stop the course even if the symptoms have subsided, as it might not signify that the infection has been cured completely. The total period of treatment may take up to several months.
- Side effects
Contact a medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: body pain, chills, high temperature, soars in your mouth or throat; aching or swollen joints and glands; skin rash in the cheek and nose area, severe skin reaction accompanied by sore throat, fever, swollen face or tongue, burning sensation in the eyes, blistering and peeling; patchy skin color; behavioral changes; hearing problems; weight loss; taste changes; silvery skin flaking.
Common effects of using Generic Lamisil include: mild nausea and stomach pain, gas, diarrhea or upset stomach; dizziness or headache; moderate skin rash or itching; unpleasant taste in your mouth. - Precautions
Notify your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you: liver or kidney disease; medical history of depression; lupus, psoriasis or another autoimmune disorder.
Lamisil is not known to harm an unborn baby; however, you should notify your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy during the treatment. - Drug interactions
Notify your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications: cimetidine (Tagamet HB, Tagamet); : cyclosporine (Neoral, Gengraf, Sandimmune); antifungal medications such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), voriconazole (Vfend) or miconazole (Oravig); blood thinners such as warfarin (Jantoven or Coumadin); heart rhythm medications amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), flecainide (Tambocor) or propafenone (Rythmol); rifampin (Rifamate, Rifater, Rimactane, Rifadin); MAO inhibitors such as phenelzine (Nardil), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), isocarboxazid (Marplan), rasagiline (Azilect) or tranylcypromine (Parnate); "SSRI" antidepressants fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox) or paroxetine (Paxil); beta-blockers such as carvedilol (Coreg), betaxolol (Kerlone), metoprolol (Dutoprol, Lopressor, Toprol), labetalol (Normodyne), pindolol (Visken), propranolol (Inderal) or timolol (Blocadren); tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Vanatrip, Limbitrol), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), desipramine (Norpramin) and others.
- Missed dose
If you have missed your dose of Generic Lamisil, make sure to take it as soon as possible. However, two doses should never be taken at the same time, so if the time for the next dose has almost come, DO NOT take the dose you have missed.
- Storage
Lamisil should be stored at the temperature below 77°F (25°C), away from moisture, heat and light, out of reach of children and pets and in a tightly closed container. Avoid storing in the bathroom.
