- Uses
Generic Indocin belongs to the category of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). It can stifle hormones that lead to body inflammation and cause pain. It is frequently prescribed to treat arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, tendinitis or bursitis.
- How to take
Generic Indocin should be taken according to your doctor's instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not change the dosage or period of use without prior medical consult.
To lower the risk of upset stomach, take the medication with food or milk.
Swallow the whole capsule without crashing or chewing it as it may lead to the rapid release of a big amount of medication. - Side effects
DO NOT use the medication if you are allergic to it. If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.
Contact a medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: body weakness, chest pain, slurred speech, shortness of breath, sight problems or difficulty to keep balance; tarry, dark or bloody stools; swelling or rapid weight increase; bloody cough or coffee-ground vomit; smaller volumes of urination; stomach pain, nausea, mild fever, lack of appetite, yellow-colored skin and eyes; sore throat; headache; skin rash with peeling and blistering; muscle weakness, pain or numbness; bruising and severe tingling. - Precautions
Avoid combining the medication with alcohol as it may increase the probability of stomach bleeding.
Do not use any over-the-counter medications for cold symptoms, painkillers or allergy drugs without prior medical consult. Many of such medications contain aspirin or other agents similar to indomethacin (e.g. ketoprofen, ibuprofen or naproxen).
While taking Generic Indocin avoid sunlight and exposure to artificial UV rays. - Drug interactions
Notify your medical specialist if you are taking antidepressants (Celexa, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Prozac, Sarafem, Symbyax, Luvox, Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor etc.) due to the risk of easy bruising and bleeding, blood thinners (Coumadin), digoxin (Digitalis, Lanoxin), methotrexate (Trexall, Rheumatrex), probenecid (Benemid), steroids (prednisone and others), cyclosporine (Gengraf, Sandimmune, Neoral), lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith), diuretics such as furosemide (Lasix), aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Missed dose
If you have missed your dose of Generic Indocin, make sure to take it as soon as possible. However, two doses should never be taken at the same time, so if the time for the next dose has almost come, DO NOT take the dose you have missed.
- Storage
Generic Indocin should be stored between 59°F and 86°F (15°C and 30°C), away from light and moisture, out of reach of children and pets. Do not store the medication in the bathroom.
