- Uses
Generic Augmentin is prescribed to cure bacteria-caused illnesses, including ear, lungs, skin, sinus, urinary tract infections, as well as sexually transmitted diseases. Individual prescriptions will depend on your condition and should be defined by your doctor.
Being a representative of the penicillin class antibiotics, Generic Augmentin prevents further growth of bacteria causing a disease. - How to take
Augmentin should be taken in strict compliance with your doctor's instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not alter dosage or the prescribed period of use without prior medical consult. Continue the course even if the symptoms you were suffering from have subsided; otherwise the bacteria causing the disease might get resistant to antibiotics.
The medication can be taken during meals or otherwise, although food will prevent it from causing digestion problems. - Side effects
DO not use the medication if you are allergic to it. If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.
Contact your medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: bruising or bleeding; irregularities in urination; changed color of urine; acute stomach pain; yellow-colored skin or white of the eyes; acute or bloody diarrhea.
Common side effects of using Augmentin include: nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea, digestion problems.
Note that this list does not include all possible side effects. Other side effects might occur depending on individual health conditions. - Precautions
Notify your medical specialist if you are allergic to any medications, especially amoxicillin, vulanic acid, penicillin or cephalosporins, as well as of prescription and non-prescription medications you have been or are taking (especially allopurinol and probenecid). Augmentin must not be combined with live vaccines.
In case if you are taking birth control pills, anticoagulants, methotrexate, allopurinol, tetracycline antibiotics or injectable aminoglycosides, special medical attention should be paid to dosage and your health condition during the course.
You should also notify your doctor in advance if you have a history of any of the following diseases: kidney or liver disease, asthma, blood disorders, hay fever, hives or mononucleosis.
Breast-feeding or pregnant women should consult a medical specialist prior to starting the course of Augmentin. - Drug interactions
If combined with Benemid, Generic Augmentin may lead to changes in blood levels, while its interaction with Zyloprim may cause a skin rash. Taking Generic Augmentin may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pill. It is recommended to use an additional non-hormone birth control method.
- Missed dose
Take a missed dose as soon as you remember. If you are taking two doses a day and you missed one of them, take it as soon as you remember and the other one within five or six hours after. If you take more than two doses a day, take the second dose within two to four hours after you've taken the missed one.
- Storage
Store capsules in a tightly closed bottle at 68°F (20°C) or at a lower temperature. Acceptable temperature for storing Augmentin tablets is 77°F (25°C). Keep away from moisture and light, out of reach of children and pets.
