Elocon 0.1% 10mg tube (Generic)
Generic Elocon (mometasone furoate) is a synthetic glucocorticoid that is used topically on the skin (the naturally occurring glucocorticoid is cortisol or hydrocortisone, which is produced by the adrenal gland.) Glucocorticoids have potent anti-inflammatory actions and also suppress the immune response.

- Uses
Elocon (mometasone furoate) Ointment 0.1% is a medium potency corticosteroid indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Elocon (mometasone furoate ointment, USP) Ointment 0.1% may be used in pediatric patients 2 years of age or older, although the safety and efficacy of drug use for longer than 3 weeks have not been established. Since safety and efficacy of Mometasone furoate have not been adequately established in pediatric patients below 2 years of age, its use in this age group is not recommended. - How to take Apply a thin film of Mometasone furoate to the affected skin areas once daily. Mometasone furoate may be used in pediatric patients 2 years of age or older. Since safety and efficacy of Mometasone furoate have not been adequately established in pediatric patients below 2 years of age, its use in this age group is not recommended.
- Side effects
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, notify your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using Elocon.
More common side effects may include: Acne-like pimples, allergic skin rash, boils, burning, damaged skin, dryness, excessive hairiness, infected hair follicles, infection of the skin, irritation, itching, light colored patches on skin, prickly heat, rash around the mouth, skin atrophy and wasting, softening of the skin, stretch marks, tingling or stinging. - Precautions
Before using Generic Elocon, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: poor blood circulation, diabetes, immune system problems.
Corticosteroids can make skin infections worse and more difficult to treat. Tell your doctor if you have a skin infection so it can be treated. Tell your doctor promptly if your condition does not improve or if you have worsening skin symptoms.
Rarely, using corticosteroid medications for a long time or over large areas of skin can make it more difficult for your body to respond to physical stress. Therefore, before having surgery or emergency treatment, or if you get a serious illness/injury, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication or have used this medication within the past few months.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
Though it is unlikely, this medication may slow down a child's growth if used for a long time. The effect on final adult height is unknown. See the doctor regularly so your child's height can be checked.
During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. - Drug interactions
It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied Elocon. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.
- Missed dose If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
- Storage
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C). Keep away from children and pets.
